First of all, I revamped Heterochromia’s blogroll after I discovered that Heterochromia is linked by Nigorimasen. *_* This kind of makes me think back of those times when I have dreamed of Heterochromia to be linked by all those people whose blogs I enjoy and who I have linked on my blogroll, and then one day, I realized that I was on all of them, haha. How happy.
Anyways, back to topic. While everyone and their sister (*hint hint*) is at Otakon, I realized that there are way, way too many series I am looking forward to again. It’s been ages since I have felt like that, looking back at my archive, the last really exciting season for me was Spring 2007. That’s why I decided to bring another season post - the kind of postings I actually have enjoyed the most during my whole blogging time.
In fact, I find this season to be suprisingly interesting. Perhaps I should start checking back at Antenna or Animenano for new blogs when the season starts - I expected quite a few of them to come up.
Must-watch

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei OVA
There is not much to say about this. After two seasons of incredible enjoyment, of course I would be looking forward to this.

Lucky Star OVA
Lucky Star was one of the highlights of the last year. How can I not want to watch this? I’ve even re-watched some episodes of Lucky Star. If it were me, this would be an anime that runs forever. The anime has been delayed, but as long as it comes out, I’m happy.

Today in Class 5-2
Again, this is a series that I have really loved when it started. The manga is by the same author as Minami-ke and I have actually started reading Minami-ke because I have loved Today in Class 5-2. Thus, if this TV show is just as good as the manga or the OVA, this will turn out to be the best series of the season. Perhaps this is the perfect substitute for Minami-ke when it’s over?
Will definitely be watching the first episode

Ride Back
Again, this is another series that makes me go “Huh?” But, that’s what you have to expect because this is the adaptation of an IKKI manga. I expect horrible animation quality (this is Madhouse after all), but the director is a guy who has worked on Paranoia Agent, Spirited Away, Abenobashi Mahou Shotengai, Kemonozume and the Monster manga. Thus, I’m more than mildly interested.

Yozakura Quartet
The website design makes me get all excited, of course I would be taking a look at this of course. I have no idea what this is about though and I never cared about looking into the manga either.

ef - a tale of melodies
I have really liked ef in the past, but now this seems to be more of a spin-off revolving around a character that I happen to dislike. Of course I will take a look nevertheless.

Bounen no Xamdou
Okay, this is not really a fall series because it’s already available. I still would like to mention this: The Eureka 7 style is just incredibly great, and if this show is just as cool and less emo, I’m sure I’ll like it a lot. This seems to be the kind of show that is just like Eureka 7 and a little bit better, but will never reach its fame.

Toradora!
This tiger is the best! So cute! I don’t know much about this except that the main girl looks really cute and the premise seems to be nice too. (Nice but scary looking meeting a cute girl, harr harr.) On top of that, it’s animated by J.C. Staff, so I’m expecting a nice looking character design, hahaha.

Kuroshitsuji
What can I say, this is quite a somewhat gothic looking style, so of course I will check this out. Perhaps one day there will be a really good goth-y series, considering how all others have actually been a disappointment (from Petite Cosette to Mnemosyne to Ergo Proxy to Venus Versus Virus).
Skip Beat
I really, really dislike shoujo manga adaptations by now. Typically, anime studios decide to bring a series that I liked (Aishiteruze Baby, Peach Girl, Lovely Complex, Perfect Girl Evolution, Bokura ga Ita) only to turn it into a mediocre anime. Thus, I’m very careful with choosing this kind of anime now, but Skip Beat is just another one of my favourites.

Shikabane-hime Aka
The Gainax show of the season, how can I not watch this? Then again, Gainax has a few bad shows, but you’ll never know.
Will most likely be watching the first episode

Hell’s Angels OVA
I have found this to be a really nice manga when I started reading it. Then, I slowly stopped reading it, but perhaps I will consider picking this OVA up. It’s supposedly short after all.

Kannagi
Crazy Shrine Maidens, huh? The description of the manga sounds totally different though. I remember very well that I have found the character design to be very cute when the manga was scanlated, but I never even read one chapter of it. But who knows, perhaps the anime will turn out really cute and moe?

Michiko to Hatchin
Their character design of the two girls is great, isn’t it? I like character driven shows the best, and this one definitely looks like one that has potential. Even the person on Iwa ni Hana has blogged about it.

Hakushaku to Yousei
What the heck is this picture, was my very first reaction. Now I realize that I actually find the style somewhat intriguing, and am looking forward to what this series has to offer.

Kemeko DX
I’m curious about the anime adaptation of a manga that I never cared for. I don’t like Kemeko as a character and the whole thing could turn out like Kyouran Kazoku Nikki, but one should always give them a chance, right?
Somewhat interesting because of silly reasons

Chaos;Head
I’m really intrigued by this picture and the description of this anime somehow. However, I doubt I will find this interesting when it runs considering that this is the adaptation of a game. Well, we’ll see.

Bihada Ichizoku
One look at this picture tells us how ridiculous this is. Somebody seems to be stuck in the Lady Oscar era and cannot get out of it. The company itself actually produces make-up, what the heck? Who knows, maybe I’ll take a look.

Machgirl
It’s a kogal racing anime, so what can I say? It surely looks extremely ridiculous, perhaps I’d still take a look out of randomness though.

Tytania
Pip says that the splash page on the website has a Gankutsuou feel - I do agree with it and find it amusing, but I doubt the show will be actually interesting.

Hyakko
Hahaha, this is going to be such a crappy show XD But, the “Halloween coloured” school uniforms are somewhat nice - for some reason, I really dig the black/orange combination.

You are not… gonna watch all them… are you?
Posted 09 Aug 2008 at 17:14 CE(S)T ¶My my, that was fast. No, I’m not going to, I just noticed that this season has quite a lot of original things again. Actually I have never watched all the shows in my season previews, I just mention the ones I find interesting.
I might end up watching too many though, haha.
Posted 09 Aug 2008 at 17:22 CE(S)T ¶I think 5 of them (non-OVA), I will dig: Today in Class 5-2, Toradora!, Shikabane-hime Aka, Michiko to Hatchin…. wait where’s the 5th ?? >.>
Posted 09 Aug 2008 at 18:41 CE(S)T ¶Ef a tale of meoldies isn’t a spin off, there were 2 parts to the story from the very beginning.
Posted 09 Aug 2008 at 19:17 CE(S)T ¶Kuroshitsuji isn’t really goth in my opnion (it’s funny though), but the cloths is really gorgeous…
For chaos;head, don’t count it out just because it’s from a game. it’s an exteremely popular vn and those CAN turn out well. (like clannad, air and ef a tale of memories)
I’m having a hard time choosing too… T.T
Oh wow I didn’t even know there was a 5-2 OVA coming.
Posted 09 Aug 2008 at 20:15 CE(S)T ¶I haven’t really looked over the complete lists but Today in Class 5-2 also stands out to me. That’s probably the only one I’m looking forward to because I think there will only be 1 timeslot open for me during fall.
Posted 10 Aug 2008 at 02:59 CE(S)T ¶Impressive work there - I haven’t even drawn up a summer schedule yet, let alone an autumn one!
I’m up for more Zetsubo sensei though (if only AFK would sub the rest of the second season) but on a more worrying note, I’m determined to watch Shikabane-hime Aka because it’s a zombie girl with a gun…and it’s Gainax. The worrying part being, even if it’s rubbish I’ll probabky still watch it.
Posted 10 Aug 2008 at 04:37 CE(S)T ¶@Caitlin: Haha, if I only had one single timeslot, it’s probably be Today in Class 5-2 for me as well. It’s the only TV show I’m definitely planning to watch after all, but I know already that there will at least be some others I would want to watch.
The only thing I could never understand is how you can put up with Special A for so long, considering how few anime you watch.
@Martin: The summer season is not interesting enough to draw up a schedule anyways
Ah yes, Zetsubou, I wonder who will sub it. At any rate, volans is doing quite a good job with Zoku, I think. They are putting up quite an impressive editing work in my opinion, and I wonder if afk will ever come back to life.
Haha, Shikabane-hime Aka is the last anime I have added to my list too. I usually don’t watch this stuff and don’t have high expectations for it, but how can you overlook it, right?
@RyanA: But you have to watch Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei at least!
@Choux: You are right, I completely forgot about the fact that the game had indeed two parts. And Kuroshitsuji is not ‘goth’ indeed as it’s not dark at all. However, what I meant when I thought ‘goth’ was the gothic lolita style visuals - which it definitely is. And now I’m wondering why the male gothic lolita style looks so horribly androgynous…
Posted 10 Aug 2008 at 08:37 CE(S)T ¶I might just have to check Chaos;Head out or at least wait until more information for it comes up. After all, I have enjoyed ef a lot - but I don’t like either Clannad nor Air.
@Sasa: I hate incompleteness. Dropping a series is pretty hard for me to do, even if it’s mediocre. Probably why I’m so choosy in starting something….
Posted 10 Aug 2008 at 15:22 CE(S)T ¶You’ve got good taste, Sasa! I think I’ll be checking out the shows you are then, but most likely the Kannagi one cos the pics are adorable. And the quartet one sounds good too!
Posted 14 Aug 2008 at 09:20 CE(S)T ¶I know what you mean about the black & orange uniforms Hyakko…something about that look is surprisingly compelling.
Sounds like for the most part you’ve echoed my own thoughts on the new shows, although I was never really an ef fan, and thus don’t really plan to give the new ef much attention either.
Posted 15 Aug 2008 at 09:21 CE(S)T ¶@Caitlin: I understand your issues since I have been exactly the same. But I think that this system keeps you up from lots of good shows and is detrimental to your general appreciation of anime. Well, I hope you won’t get too disappointed with your choices then!
@blissmo: Why thank you :3 I’m looking forward to how you’ll like the new season.
@0rion: Oh, shall I say “welcome back” now?
It’s a little difficult to assess what I actually think about ef - on the one hand, it’s a game adaptation and thus never really goes over “a tale of photoshop filters” for me and I had to facepalm a lot during the show; on the other hand, I actually cared for the characters’ relationship and development, much unlike true tears.
Posted 16 Aug 2008 at 11:04 CE(S)T ¶Thanks for this! I’ve been away for so long that I don’t even know what’s going on, a list like this is just what I need!
Posted 16 Aug 2008 at 22:36 CE(S)T ¶Good taste! Kuroshitsuji and ~ef~ are indeed winners.
However, maybe it’s just me, but J.C Staff can sometimes butcher a character’s design. Here’s to high hopes for Toradora! though.
Posted 18 Aug 2008 at 22:21 CE(S)T ¶My goodness what a good season indeed. Hopefully it’s not all internal hype and I end up being massively disappointed.
Oh and… I CANT FREAKING WAIT FOR YOZAKURA QUARTET.
Posted 19 Aug 2008 at 00:47 CE(S)T ¶>expect horrible animation quality (this is Madhouse after all)
?????????
Lots of good shows, and it deserves mention that Yokazura Quartet is directed by MATSUO KOU who did KURENAI AND RED GARDEN.
Posted 28 Aug 2008 at 02:14 CE(S)T ¶@C.I.: Ah, which series are you actually thinking of?
@Os: I know, but even if only one or two series turn out to be brilliant, it’s far than enough for me.
@digitalboy: My bad expectations for Madhouse mostly stem from my impression that they have very good animation and character design for shows that are popular - and horrid animation and character design for rather low-budget shows like Allison & Lillia. And Ride Back definitely is a low-budget show, but we’ll see. It’s a show I’ll definitely take a look at anyways.
Oh, now I am expecting Yokazura Quartet to look completely different than the picture on the website.
Posted 28 Aug 2008 at 07:11 CE(S)T ¶For some reason, Today in Class 5-2 really bored me; I found absolutely nothing interesting in it at all. There aretoo many good looking shows on now. Ill have to hope that some I’m on the fence about turn out crappy.
