A Guy Can Have Frilly White Curtains If He Wants

Ahhh, despite the fact that I now have a new blog, I did promise to post my room pictures here.

Now out of all my friends -which includes males and females, mind you-, only one or two really appreciate my room. The rest, they just laugh and go “Oh Vu (my name), you and your silly anime junk”… well, all of ‘em say that actually. I wish I could take my “junk” down with me to college, but I’m actually a closet fan and I’d rather not let many people know that I’m into this stuff. So at most, I bring my Dragon Ball Z poster than I got when I was a wee lad and some old Puffy AmiYumi stuff I got from Tofu Records when it was still alive and put them on the wall and call it a day.

At home, though. That’s my sanctuary. I no longer buy dvds but if anything I’ll *probably* buy the Lucky Star and Aria box sets and buy all of Honey and Clover if/when it comes out. What I still do is buy a lot of manga. I go to the bookstore at least once a week to read for free and occasionally I’ll buy something if I feel it’s worth adding to the collection. Of course, I dont buy without a coupon. But enough chit chat, you came here for pictures:

Of course the establishing shot. I’ve posted pictures of room before and each time… my bed remains unmade. Unlike Sasa, I live in a mess but that’s okay as long as I know where everything is. As you can also see, there’s my *in*famous hello kitty beanie in the corner, there. And of course, there are the frilly curtains that everyone calls me out on every time.

This is my baby (a larger version here). Where all my manga lie. I haven’t read some more than once while others I’ve read a bajillion times. Too bad all these first editions are not worth anything at all I bet. Maybe in the future? Now how about a closer look:

Larger version here. There’s Nobue from Ichigo Mashimaro’s head. I lost her body somewhere. And also my only anime figure. I would love to collect figures but I have insufficient funds and I have to pay my way through college so… yeahhh. This is also the most unshoujo shelf you’ll see here.

Here’s the middle and the larger version… with and without the Lucky Star manga that I cannot read. I got lucky and bought all of that Kare Kano -in not bad condition for about $120, if I remember correctly-. As you can see, next to Beck is the Coffee Prince K-drama box set. One of my favorite dramas of all time. I will move it when I get more Beck and Fruba. Also that CONTINUE magazine? Cant read that either. Just bought it for the Hachikuro.

Again, larger version. I gave up on Nana. I wish it was shorter cos it was pretty good for a while. Those two copies of Honey and Clover are my babies. I will never let anyone touch those in fear that they would bend the cover back more than I will accept or even worse… get their greasy fingerprints all over it. I dislike lending my manga away but if they’re good enough friends, I just bear with it. You also see one of the few books I own, Schulz and Shutting Out the Sun: How Japan Created It’s Own Lost Generation. Before anime, I was really into Charlie Brown and comics and the second title is REALLY interesting. It’s about hikkikomori.

No need for a larger version but if you want to see it, it’s in the photoalbum. I’ll probably stop collecting Negima because even though Ken Akamatsu is my favorite, 14 may be the line with him. Not pictured is my stack of Love Hina. It was my first true love and why I got into anime/manga. Also A.I. Love you… but that was before he developed his own style. That looks more like Ah Megumi-Sama.

Now for my surroundings:

Large version. Now those two wall scrolls on the far left and right, I rotate every once in a while seeing as I lack wall scroll space. I have two more Haruhi scrolls (which I got as an awesome X-mas gift), a Samurai Champloo scroll and a R.O.D scroll. Those two old scrolls can be found pictured here and here.

This is my ceiling. Larger Version here. It has remained unchanged for about a year. Too much effort to move ‘em around.

And now… two random pictures that I drew in college because I was bored! -Note: these pictures can be found on the covers of the Cowboy Bebop dvds. I dont draw, per se, I transcribe onto a sheet of paper. I’m incapable of drawing originals but I NEVER trace-

I draw to vent and when I feel restless. These two are perfect examples of when that happens.

And that’s about it. You can see older pictures and more of my room in the photoalbum. Just click on one of those links and then go up a folder, it shouldn’t be that hard if you’re curious enough.

Honestly, if you where to look at my room you wouldn’t really know I was an anime fan. Got no posters or stuff like that. Only clue is that I have some anime dvds and a few manga volumes on the bookcase.

After seeing all these room posts, it makes me wonder. It seems that the average otaku room looks the same. Displayed manga, figures, posters/wallscrolls and erm, frilly curtains. I guess you guys are proud of your handiwork.

And since Os has lived up his side of the bargain, I guess I’ll have to honour mine too. A room post sometime over the weekend then…

Like Scott’s, my room is almost devoid of anime/manga traces. Fandom merch clashes with my room’s, erm, decor.

I stash all my manga, figs, dvds, and all things geeky inside a walk-in closet. I even placed a bean bag and a pillow. It’s my tiny sanctuary when I hide from everyone. Heh.

hmmm. I wouldn’t say proud to the point that I tell people. It’s just that, if I’m going to have my own living space, might as well make it my own.

And by the way, the frilly curtains have been there before I moved into that room. It used to be someone else’s.

Well this was certainly interesting to see. You have way more manga than I do, I have a small collection of it but a large collection of Anime (modest though, a few classic shows but not entire shelves of it).

I also have a lot of print books because I read a variety of things. I have a copy of The Satanic Verses by Salman Rushdie that I had to hide because my brother’s (now ex) Persian girlfriend came over to visit, as well as a bit of poetry. Quite interesting.

I almost have all 4 volumes of “R.O.D.: Read or Die” displayed on my shelf, as well as a few Osamu Tezuka manga on another shelf. I have Osamu Tezuka art prints on my wall, which is really the only Anime posters I have. I have Yotsuba&! too!

Ah a neatly arranged manga shelf. I’ve been thinking of getting one for a long time as all my manga are currently stored in boxes. There’s also the space issue for a shelf. >.<
