Summer season preview - I guess it’s time to get to my backlog

I finished this blog posting and was just about to click on “Publish” when I decided to change my whole entry. It just has to be said: The next season is going to be crap and I have a beautiful set of 4 series I might watch. What the heck is wrong with this world? If I look back at my preview postings and the fact that I am watching a bunch of series in the current season, I can’t help but wonder how it happened.

The small variety of interesting summer series brings me to the question whether I should consider blogging episodically again. It used to be a lot of fun, and with less series to blog about, I might start with this season. On the other hand, I find it fairly pointless and not particularily exciting to only blog about three series. Any suggestions

Hidamari Sketch x365
The main achievement of Hidamari Sketch is, in my opinion, the most endearing facial expressions that anime has ever brough. Of course only die-hard fans like me would appreciate it, so Hidamari Sketch will hopefully fill the gap that Aria and Chii will leave when it’s over for them.

Natsume Yuujin-Chou
Based on a manga that has won some prizes (I forgot which ones though, how embarassing), I will definitely take a look at this. I actually expect a quite sophisticated series in the veins of Mushishi, although it is nearly impossible to find something equal to it.

Chocolate Underground
I stumbled upon this series on psgels’ post that I linked at the beginning of this one. It has a quite unusual premise and the characters don’t look too bad. Here’s hoping that the execution of this story will turn out as promising as the director’s other work, Toshokan Sensou.

Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto: Natsu no Sora
It’s been years since I read the manga, and I find the main character fairly cute looking. Storywise, it looks like something lolikit might like (and in this case, it surprisingly does not mean that I will necessarily dislike it).

To my biggest disappointment, the NoitaminA slot is taken by Antique Bakery, a “boy’s love” story. Yuck. I actually have a certain antipathy against Fumi Yoshinaga. How can such a bad mangaka be nominated for the Eisner awards? The world is bad.

As the title suggests, I will most probably start to watch more series from my huge backlog and of course finish up the series I am currently watching.

Now that was… short. Damn, what an utterly crappy season. Thanks for the usual service though, very much appreciated. :D

Gah! It’s summer already? As always, I’m at least 2 seasons behind…

On the bright side, Hidamari Sketch X365 alone is enough to last me the whole of summer.

Thanks for the heads-up, as always :D

I agree with MrMayat here. :P

On another hand, do you happen to know if the 4th season of Marimite is coming out in the summer?

That Natsume show looks like Full metal alchemist! I mean that guy is like an Ed clone!

@TheBigN: The only thing I know is “August 2008″ and I don’t even have a reliable source for that, I’m sorry.

@Hinano: Oh God, you are right! But that must be a coincidence.

@MrMayat: It’s true, Hidamari is the only shining light there - it was the same in Winter 2006 back in the day!

@Milkmaster: I know, I know. It’s really sad, and I’m trying to make the best out of it. After all, huge backlogs are evil and shall be destroyed forever.

Looking at your backlog, I’d say it’s a good time to break out the Eureka Seven and hibernate through the summer season.

Everybody seems to love Eureka Seven, TJ and Pip in particular, so with you that makes three good reasons to finally watch it.
