About the un-named all-girl blogging community and the state of this blog

brr

Pretty much unrelated picture as this is going to be a rant post.

When itsubun proposed to go into a temporary channel with usagijen and me because Owen and LK were spamming the #ABC channel, I would have never expected some girl group coming out of it, and even though I did foresee lots of interest coming from the male part of the blogosphere, I could never have known it’s so much hilarious drama long before things have even started (aka the girls posting something).

First of all, I’m sorry for not having announced this on Heterochromia. I was lazy and busy as hell recently and I know that my readership either knows about this and/or is male anyways. It led to some misunderstanding (poor Hinano? And what the heck, this is on TJ’s blog?) but it doesn’t matter.

If liking Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei is elitist, then Kaiba is even more.

Second, I have no idea why is supposed to be elitist. Now saying this is a little bit dangerous, because I sold my body to am hosted by Randall and he is part of the “what the heck this reeks of elitism” group. While elitism and its definition was discussed fervently in the past, I think all had in common that you have to have a certain superiority feeling when being elitist. I see this happening nowhere just because it’s not open to everybody. I can understand people feeling left out or whatever, but naming this elitist is so uncalled for that I don’t even have any counter-arguments to it because it’s so absurd.
If you guys feel left out though, fear not: The discussion process along with a bunch of fangirling is most probably not going to be interesting anyways. But the result might be and that’s where we’re working towards.

“We just want to play?” Loliyuri in ridiculous shoujo style.

And finally, I have my mixed feelings about this community myself as the only girl-driven forum I have been in has literally thrown me out because I had “It’s not rape, it’s surprise sex!” in my signature and they thought it’s immoral. On the one hand, I do distinguish between the sexes and I deal with men and women very differently: fangirling and getting excited in real life is only reserved for girls and love interests, while I’m much more serious and try to give an air of coolness when discussing with men, although you might not get this impression when reading my blog postings. Therefore, a round-robin that discusses gender issues would be fairly interesting. The original idea was to show the (predominantly male) blogosphere how women perceive otakudom, japanese culture, the blogging community and life itself.
On the other hand, I like the internet partially because sexes don’t matter all too much, and being girlish or not is often perceived as your individual personality, not your actual gender that puts you into one of the two definite, often clichéd categories. Osu for example is an internet girl (but his approaches to interpersonal relationships are very manly, thus making him a man in real life =P). As s/he has established recently, issa-sa is an internet girl as well. Marmot however, is an internet GAR. See?

What should be the category for green-haired traps then?

And now for something personal: Apparently it’s always some nice comments and these community forces that drive me into blogging again. Last time when I wanted to stop blogging, the ABC has made me write a post, and this time, I have a few postings and projects lying around that I cannot see unfinished. However, summer has started and while Osu has so much time for blogging that he’s dedicating himself to a new blog, I have started to be a full-time intern thus having no time at all. We will see.

I want to be able to pin my hair up like this. This hairstyle is the epitome of femininity.

Had a good laugh when this issue is being flung left and right round the community ^_^. As for me, well, I reckon why not? The elitist tag sure is unfounded and well, some discussion are best left to one own gender group (note, I’m not being sarcastic here :).

Sorry sasa and Hinano. I’ve caused some distressing misunderstandings. :(

lanie-emon: Hey hey, I can talk about soccer too! No seriously, there is at least one topic where I think that it definitely should be discussed among girls. It’s exactly how turkish people in Germany can make fun of the clichés around themselves - but if a german does, it’s totally not accepted as it’s considered discrimination.

Hynavian: It’s not a problem, really. I really appreciate that you’ve come back to me. It would be nice if you put a little note on your post or something, but ultimately it’s not really important.
Your post itself was great as you have seen in my comment to it ;)

blissmo:Err, actually… I suck at LOLs. I’m sure this blog has yet to see one funny post.

    Hi Sasa,

Yes I’ve posted a note to clear up the mis-understandings. I’m also heading over to Hinano’s blog to drop her a note. (: Once again, my apologies for the mis-understandings.

Seems like this is another episode that’s completely passed me by (I still ought to ‘lurk moar’ on IRC it seems).

The issue of “Women? On MY internet?” has always puzzled me - I usually react to the idea that a blogger is female with mild surprise because the anime blogosphere is still fairly male-orientated so, to put it bluntly, there aren’t many of you around. Whether this applies to the ‘net in general I don’t know, but oftentimes I prefer to read female bloggers’ posts because of the differing viewpoints thing; this is especially important for me when discussing character-driven shows where a female blogger will inevitably notice something I didn’t.

Are you in that slump again Sasa? Don´t stop bloging. Write a couple of posts when you have the time. I´m heading for summer freedom, don´t you have a little free time to spend?

There must be a lot of stuff that have gone trough your mind then, if it is something not to personal(lemon fics are welcome you know ^_^) then blog about it.

Girls or guys, let everyone write what they each think about stuff, in what way they want, that is the good thing about bloging. Everyone can write about what they want. Gender doesn´t matter.

Me, I don´t care about the authors gender as long as the post is well written.

Just as an aside from all the drama, as fun as it is, I will NEVER EVER say anything about dissenting opinions from the people I host. I don’t offer hosting as part of some grand scheme to have people agree with me, I offer it so people can express their honest opinions.

I just want to make plain that my bitching about this thing is just my expressing my own opinion, and just as with the ABAs, I’m glad so long as my bloggers are doing and saying exactly what they want to do and say. Call me a dick, wrong, etc, etc. I don’t mind. :D

@Hynavian: Thanks for clearing everything up. It’s really not a big deal ^^ On a side note, TBH, I never expected you to be a girl from the Claymore posts of yours I’ve read XD

@Martin: Perhaps this is one of the few blogs with a female author that you read? As we can see from the member list of this all-girl blogging thing, there seem to be lots of anime blogs by girls - they just are not in the same community as we are (of course “our” community is rather difficult to define as well but I think it’s not all too surprising that there are so many blogs I’ve never heard about)
It is true that a woman might approach the series we watch in a different way - but foremost, I have the impression that girls tend to write about completely other topics and series than guys, heh. I recently browsed through some of the “new” girls’ blogs and felt that this is totally not my world.

@Osu: Yes. An internet girl, as we have established =P

@Manga: As always, thank you for your kind words, Manga. But honestly, if I don’t feel like blogging, I just can’t help it and then I really won’t blog for awhile. (Or rather, for months, haha.)

@Ryan A: If that is a question directed towards me, I’d tend towards “yes”. For some reason the readers of my blog seem to be predominantly male (which I consider a good thing), and it seems to me it’s mainly people who come back and know me to some degree (who else would read my writing anyways, ehehe).

@Randall: Haha, I’m sorry, that’s a joke and you know that. I would never keep myself up from saying what I think, at least on the internet, so don’t worry ;)

@Hige: I see. Is that joke really so bad? ;)
