If I told you that I had high hopes for this series, that would be a lie. If I told you I wanted to watch this show simply so that I could hear Aya’s voice, that would not be a lie. If I told you that this show was fantastic, that would be a lie. If I told you to watch it because I think you’d like it, that would be a lie. If I then proceeded to tell you that I want to watch more of this show because I enjoyed Ep.1 greatly and I thought it was amazing, that would be a huge lie.
If I told you that this show took over 5 minutes before I could finally hear Aya’s voice, that would not be a lie. (Note: to be exact, you dont get to hear Aya’s voice until 6:18 mark, using [live-evil]’s version.) WHAT CRAP IS THAT? You have the biggest voice since… well, I really dont know specific seiyuu names besides Sugita and Minoru Shiraishi, but that’s a pretty big name you got there. I’d spam her voice everywhere like Lucky Star did: OP, every character voice, ED (it IS her song, by the way. Not too bad), everything. Unlike many people, I actually like her -and her voice- a lot. I didn’t jump on the bandwagon because of Haruhi, it was this. What’s not to love about her after reading that, AMIRITE?
But If I told you to watch this show because I wanted you to, that would not be a lie. Why? Well, I’ll get to that.
As you can tell, this show’s all about lies and deceit. This show started off like every other Lupin III episode -I wouldn’t be surprised if they just took the very same scene and remade it-. It’s not really that interesting from what I could see of the first episode. Probably some junk where 20 faces eventually dies and has her take over his place or something. For those who want to know, Chiko (Aya) is the heir to this huge company and her aunt and uncle who have taken care of her plan to poison her for the inheritance. Enter 20 Faces who has been disguised as the butler and he whisks her away from this horrible home and takes her on a trip with him and his team (he’s called 20 faces for obvious reasons: he’s a master thief and no one really know who he looks like. Now if you asked me, I’d tell you he looks like the guy from Big O. But that’s just me).
Exciting, right? Not really. But wait. Wait. I want you to watch this, but I guess I’m not really helping its case that much, am I? I’m giving you my honest opinion, but I still want you to watch this. Why? Three words: Fantasy Anime League. If you have a MAL account, watch this show and then update your list so that it says you watched it. It’ll get me points. If you’re familiar with fantasy sports at all, you get points for shows you have “playing”. One of the biggest reasons I chose Nijuu Mensou no Musume was because of Aya Hirano. I thought it’d have a Lucky Star effect where by simply having Aya, everyone would want to watch it at least once to see what it’s about and then blog about it and then the show will have instant success.
Well I fear it wont have the huge success that I was expecting it to with the way it’s heading, but who cares. I need points. Some Lucky Star figures are at stake, here. I want them so.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be watching Soul Eater. THAT show, I really wish I had on my team. My favorite of the season thus far. Oh, and note: I’ll finally have legit screen caps or something when I finish all my finals sometime next week.

D: I’M BEING USED FOR YOUR BENEFIT?
*promises never to watch the show again*
Posted 27 Apr 2008 at 08:03 CE(S)T ¶Okay, your post reminded me to add Nijuu Mensou no Musume to my watching list on MAL, lol.
Posted 27 Apr 2008 at 09:29 CE(S)T ¶Really, MAL right now seems like the anime otaku’s Friendster, MySpace, or Facebook account. It’s very funny.
Posted 27 Apr 2008 at 09:36 CE(S)T ¶No offense, but this is kind of a naive way of looking at things that can only qualify the response “What were you expecting?” from me. Among other things, trying to pick out anime by your favourite voice actors isn’t a very practical method.
And I think you grossly overestimate the effect that Aya Hirano or any Seiyuu for that matter has on an animes appeal. Just by having a certain Seiyuu in a show can’t automatically make it have mass appeal.
I almost have to hope that this was a joke post or something, otherwise you have a bit to learn about what most people watch anime for. Usually it’s the entire picture and not just one minor element.
Posted 27 Apr 2008 at 10:03 CE(S)T ¶@IcyStorm: … how could you? I believed in you!
@issa-sa: thank YOU
@Kaioshin Sama: Yes, yes it is a joke of sorts. I did not really enjoy this show as much as I thought. I DID watch it only for AYA and I thought it’d be high budgeted and amazing -for that, I am naive-. But that’s where joke 1 comes in. I have always been a member of Ayaism and I wanted to play off that.
What I dont expect is for you to watch it -or more of it- because I tried to get off the message that it wasn’t that good. The fantasy anime part, though true that I have the team, and though true that it would benefit me if you added it to a list, was another joke-esque hook so I could make my review an interesting read. I like to make my posts funny and -if possible- interesting, and the MAL fantasy league was the key for this post.
I guess I came off a bit wrong, here. Though I believe I think I deserve a bit more credit than this (I guess you’re not too aware of the way I post these past few years). And now, I’m rambling.

I found this show somewhat thought provoking. the reason why it is a death sentence is that any show I peg as intellectually stimulating inevitably ends up as the LEAST popular show of the season. Since I like the ‘20 faces’, it is very likely 99% of people hates it.
