Fall season preview - Are anime still exciting?

It seems like there aren’t that many people doing season previews anymore… but whatever, it’s become such a tradition for me, heh. Unfortunately I still don’t have anything like Photoshop on my laptop, so no pictures this time, sorry ^^;;; (I will do my best and add them later.)

Even though there really are a lot of series I want to see, I’m not really enthusiastic about them. Maybe it’s because I am aware that there are lots of series that are somehow (which makes my season previews so long each time), but I only end up watching 3-4 series of them, with at least one subbed very slowly. Sorry for whining so much, but I just expect that there won’t be a series that makes me so excited as Lucky Star and Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei did.

Sorted by priority, like always:

Hidamari Sketch special
We haven’t watched the 10th episode, but nevertheless it was kind of sad to see the end of the series. Somehow this sadness mainly comes over me at the end beautiful slice-of-life series, maybe because you expect them to never end? They never have a real ‘conclusion’.
Hopefully somebody subs this.

Aria the OVA ~Arietta~
Aria is the slice-of-life series that will never end! Haha. I haven’t even finished watching Aria the Natural, but of course I am staying tuned for the OVA and the next season! I don’t even want to know how I’ll feel when Aria is seriously over O.o It’s been with me over 2 years now.

Nasu: Migratory Bird with Suitcase
The story is going to be out of the manga (similarily to the second episode of “Itsudatte my Santa”), but oh well, I don’t care, it’s just one episode anyways and I kind of liked what they did with the first episode - even though it was nothing like the manga, of course. Ghibli and Iou Kuroda are like light and darkness when it comes to drawing style.

Ghost Hound
This series is the highlight of the season - or at least I hope so. If I may shamelessly cite Hashihime: “Written by the writer of Lain (Chiaki J. Konaka) from a concept by the writer of Ghost in the Shell (Shirow Masamune). Directed by the director of REC and Kino no Tabi.” Nuff said.

Minami-ke
Well, I loved most of the episodes of Kyou no 5 no 2 and I’m a rabid fan of the mangaka, so I’m having high hopes for this series to be nicely adaptated too. Also, I need my dose of schoolgirl comedy when Lucky Star is over.

Mokke
Years ago, I started reading the manga of Mokke, but stopped after seeing that the scanlators didn’t really plan to continue with it. However, I really liked the concept of the story and if I won’t be able to read the manga, I hope that somebody will be so kind to sub the series. Really, most of the series that appear in my preview that I end up not watching are those that don’t get subbed.

Sketchbook ~full color’s~
The series for the days after Hidamari? Well, it’s not exactly the same and it won’t probably reach the artsiness and cuteness of Hidamari, but from what I can see in the manga, I will most likely enjoy it.

Blue Drop ~Tenchitachi no Gikyoku~
I liked the little bit I’ve seen in the manga and since it’s the only yuri series in the season, I will obviously watch it and see if the story is anything like the manga. Also, it’s just 13 episodes.

Kodomo no Jikan
So much controversy and interesting discussions about it, how can one avoid this series? I really liked the manga (except for a few pseudo-series chapters) and I enjoy the comedy in it, so if the animation does not end up being awful, I will most probably watch it. Especially since Triad is planning to do it.

Moyashimon
I don’t really know what this is about, the whole concept seems to be rather random. But whenever somebody subs it, I will take a look at it. After all, it’s a Noitamina anime. (Then again, I have only watched H&C, Paradise Kiss and Hataraki Man - but I loved them.)

Shion no Ou
Aaah, Shion. I stopped reading the manga for some reason, but I will probably pick it up if the scanlators catch up with the japanese release one day. I wonder what they will do with the story since it’s only 12 episodes long…

Genshiken 2
I love the manga, but I haven’t even watched the first season… but there *might* be a possibility that I end up watching it one of these days.

KimiKiss pure rouge
It’s a dating sim adaptation, I know. After starting to watch School Days, I have broken my habit of never watching game adaptations - and this one is only interesting because J.C. Staff is working on it. I’m not having high expectations though.

The OVA for KnJ is beautifully made and the voice actress sound just right.
I hope they have the same quality for the TV show.

Anime is exciting as always :) Just as long as it gives me something that I want to watch then it´s exciting.

Genshiken 2… I’ve been waiting forever for this since I absolutely loved the first season. I just can’t put it into words how excited I am about this. :D

The Hidamari Sketch special will rock too. It’s easily among the top 3 slice of life shows I’ve seen. I just realized when I read your preview that “Anonymous” has actually subbed the 3 remaining episodes so I think I’ll have myself a semi-marathon tonight.. ^^

I think I have about 10 or so shows I want to watch (too lazy to look at my yet-to-be-posted entry). Some of them are: ef - a tale of memories, Genshiken 2, CLANNAD, Blue Drop ~Tenchitachi no Gikyoku~, Ghost Hound, Gundam 00, KnJ, and the list goes on. XD

Good preview! I’m surprised you didn’t mention either of the top two shows I’m looking forward to this season - Shakugan no Shana II and Gambler Kaiji, though.

Aria the OVA was pretty cool. I enjoyed it so much that I’ve gone back and started watching the show over from the beginning. Have to do something to keep me from going crazy until the 3rd season starts up, after all. ;)

@arcanes: I don’t really like typical moe series, so in case Clannad turns out to be an atypical moe series, I might consider watching it.

@Manga: It seems I’m much more demanding than you - for some reason I am still hoping for series that felt like enlightening me, such as Planetes, Karekano, Kino no Tabi or Honey & Clover. In the last two years of this blog’s existence, there were really good series like Ouran, Suzumiya Haruhi and Simoun, but the really great series are getting rarer lately (or so it seems to me).
Maybe I really should do some statistics for this: When did my favourite series actually air?

@Matte: Nice to see you around! And yeah, you make me want to watch Genshiken now. And yeah, of course I had to keep the button *hehehe*

@Leon: I always have about 8 to 10 series at least that I have peeked my eyes on too - but are you watching all those series really?

@0rion: Thanks ^^ I haven’t seen Shana I and Gambler Kaiji just slipped under my radar, I guess - I don’t know much about it actually.
About Aria: I’m glad to hear that the OVA was good; but what other can you expect from Aria, heh. I will probably start to watch the third series when I have just finished watching the second; I really don’t like waiting for it.
