Summer season preview - Damn, I am so late this time

Actually I have known for quite a long time now what I am planning to watch, but I have completely forgotten to post about it. And now I am flooded with other people’s summer anime O.o (I still hope you will read this and comment *_*)
The reason why I usually am very early with new season lists is that the anticipation of great anime is one of the biggest pleasures for me *___* At times like these (with my current writer’s block and so few series that I am actually interested in), previews makes me realize why I am so addicted to anime: It’s the hope for more great series to come!
It doesn’t even matter whether I really end up watching these series or not. In the spring anime list, I ended up not watching Bokurano even though I was so sure of it, I was wrong with Tetsuko no Tabi (which only starts in summer) and I had Lucky Star and Darker than Black very low in my list, but they turned out to be absolutely gorgeous.

So here’s my list, ranked by degree of anticipation again :]

Tetsuko1 Tetsuko5

Tetsuko no Tabi
This is what I wrote about it in spring season, and my expectations for it haven’t changed by an iota.
“Besides Bokurano, this is the very first IKKI manga that was ever turned into an anime! That’s enough to get me hooked even though I have no idea what this anime exactly is going to be about. (I would have expected Freesia much more than Bokurano and Tetsuko no Tabi though. Freesia is plain cool, but maybe a bit too dark and cruel.)

Milkmaster will love this anime: It’s IKKI, it’s about a train otaku and it probably won’t be long.”

Sad Sensei

Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei
For the longest time, the manga was lying around and I simply couldn’t get myself to read it. I didn’t even realize that this is a comedic series. But when I started reading it (that was long after 4 chapters of it came out), I couldn’t stop. It’s such a pity that this series is so difficult to translate.
The whole series has a rather quirky humour, which seems perfectly japanese to me. There also are lots of cultural references, so I guess this is mainly for people who are accustomed with japanese culture in general.
Notice how incredibly great this picture looks like *___* Of course the anime won’t look like this, but it’s still a great appetitizer *g*

Zero no Tsukaima ~Futatsuki no Kishi~
I really had fun watching Zero no Tsukaima. I was very unsure whether I should watch it for the longest time, but in the end, I gave it and it turned out to be a very entertaining experience. Obviously I will look into the second season as well, but so far, all second seasons have been disappointing me, hm…
And by the way, I am still surprised that Zero no Tsukaima 2 came out before Suzumiya Haruhi 2… one should expect the contrary, right?

Sky Girls
We’ve waited a long time, and I hope it was worth it. I actually liked the Sky Girl OVA (and Milkmaster who first pretended it would be to fanservicey for him liked it too *g*). Unlike Strike Witches, I think it actually is rather tasteful and not that clichéd. Luckily, we nearly have no cheesiness either, just a tsundere, a cool and a nice girl. Oh, and there will be some new german girl with a weird name (Elise von Dietrich, ARGH!)

Umisho

Kenko Zenrakei Suieibu Umisho
For some reason, this reminds me of Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou. Of course it has nothing to do with it, it’s just the air, the water and the green hair that makes me think of Alpha *g* I don’t know anything about the series, except for the fact that it seems to be about swimming, but I think that the promotion picture looks very promising: I love the colours and especially the facial expressions of the characters. It all looks like it will be fun.

Umisho

Baccano!
I’ve seen this series on quite a lot of other bloggers’ previews and I admit that I was too lazy to check out what this is about. However, I like the America-in-the-30s-style as well as the illustrations of the light novel which the anime is based on. So if the animation quality turns out to be nice, I probably won’t be disappointed by this.

Umisho

Potemayo
It’s based on a 4-koma and should be categorized into “comedic seinen”. On top of that, the manga covers are somehow interesting. I guess this is a hit or miss. However, I think I have liked all 4-koma adaptations so far. (Is there anything else besides Azumanga Daioh, Sensei no Ojikan, Lucky Star and Hidamari Sketch?)

Umisho

Piano no Mori
It’s merely an OVA and somebody I know thinks highly of the manga. I doubt I will really like it, but it happens that I end up liking something on second glance. Piano no Mori is a good candidate for this.

Umisho

Nanatsuiro Drops
Noiji Itoh. Nuff said?
Okay, in fact I will probably look at this and then drop it very quickly.

Umisho

Mushi-Uta
This is another adaptation of a light novel with very good-looking covers. It’s published in the same magazine as Suzumiya Haruhi, but apparently is nothing like it. I usually like light novel adaptations and the main character of this anime looks incredibly cute (she’s green-haired, you know *g*), but this one “bug”s me a little bit (what a bad pun, oh my XD): This anime features different fantasy creatures called “mushi” and I refuse to refer to something else as “mushi” than the mushi in Mushishi. I know it’s stupid…

Umisho

Moetan
Err, I like the character design, but in the end, it’s quite unlikely that I will watch this. The premise sounds a little bit too otakuishly dumb: English lessons for otaku for little girls? I guess I’m the wrong audience.

Just like spring anime, I am taken in considertaion a total of 11 series, but in the spring season, I ended up with only 4. I wonder how it will turn out this time?

So… What do you guys plan to watch? :]

The “mushi” in Mushiuta indeed aren’t normal bugs. They’re freakish monsters who feed on dreams. Tetsuko no Tabi is also slated for twelve episodes, which seems like the perfect length for such a series.

I’m wondering if you were planning to check out Mononoke, by the way. That one is my most anticipated series for the summer-season.

What about Doujin Work ? It’s the adaptation of a 4-koma too, and it deals with doujin makers. I read the first two or three chapters (the only one which were translated), and it was pretty funny.

@JTFish: Is there a KnJ anime being made? Never thought that would be animated. It´ll never reach the states, that´s for sure.

@Sasa: School Days? Of cource you have to watch this :)

On the subject, I´ll try and watch every shows first ep, then after that I´ll decide what to watch. It´s how I do things so why change it?

games made into anime is a must. Zero no Louise is fun to watch(wonder if baka inu will be replaced?) and more.

And don´t forget Code Geass will have special episodes in summer as well.
Can´t say everything I want to watch really…

It’s summer already? The offerings look “meh” to me. Perhaps I’ll “look” into a few of ‘em. Then again, AVPAS may be on my tail for all I know…

@psgels: I didn’t particularily like Ayakashi, so I most probably won’t watch Mononoke. I do think that Ayakashi (and thus, Mononoke) is interesting though.

@Skh: Aaah, Doujin Work… it sounds a lot like Comic Party which I think is quite stupid. But if it is based on a 4-koma and turns out to be really funny, I will probably take a look at it. By the way, it’s still impossible for me to get a list of adaptations of 4-koma O.o

@Manga: Yes, there is a KnJ anime, however it will only start in September according to Moonphase. Aside from that, I don’t particularily like games adaptations - I think I have never even watched a game adaptation till the end (another reason why the chances of Nanatsuiro Drops to be watched are rather low).
And oh no, I like Saito actually XD Hopefully he won’t be “replaced” (why should he, anyways?)

Tetsuko no Tabi is definitely on my must-watch list. I mean it’s based on real life happenings and the guy on the front pages looks hilarious. :P Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei is something I will give a try as well, simply because the guy on the picture reminds me of Watanuki from xxxHolic.

The second season of Zero no Tsukaima is something I’ve actually been looking forward to. The first season was a major surprise for me, because I expected the usual harem comedy type of show and decided to stay away from it until people began raining praise on it, and it turned out to be very funny and enjoyable. I can’t quite put a finger on what I liked, but I think Louise’s obvious fascination with S&M had something to do with it.. ;)

Well, since KyoAni has their hands full with Lucky Star and then Clannad, it’s no surprise that season 2 of ZnT will come before SuzuHaru.

    And I’m missing Doujin Work. It’s a 4-koma written by Hiroyuki a.k.a “A cat is fine too!”. I don’t know about you but it’s a must-see imo. ^^
