First of all, a few side notes as aperitif:
I must say that I am really amazed about the download speed of my university. 1,5MB/sec. is just awesome. And the 4th episode of Darker than Black was so incredibly sad T_T
I also feel like my Kagami post was not necessary as there seem to be other people who like her too. I’m thinking of doing such a list myself, and most likely Kagami will top the list.
And after seeing this nice post about Choco Coronettos, I feel like doing them myself because, well, I don’t know any stores who has them T_T I seriously wonder how one could do them. Are there any recipes on the internet maybe? I mean, they are just like chocolate croissants… but how do you get that caterpillar form? Hm.
Personally I think the head is the small side, but then again… I’m not sure anymore. What do you think?
Baking something reminds me of Mother’s Day approaching - I have no idea what to give to my mother *snif* I want to do something nice and pretty that doesn’t take *too* long, maybe a little bit more conservative and traditional.
Now onto the topic: The Anime-Marathon in Germany
Luckily not all german animecons are in cities that I either don’t like (Leipzig) or that are too far, and the one we went to is famous (or promoted) for being much less commercialized and mature than others. In fact, we saw a lot of oyajis there. *hrr hrr* Basically, the program for Friday was as follows:
* 4 videorooms of non-stop anime
* a room with some merchandise dealers who sold their stuff (poor guys)
* a tearoom where you got nice and good green tea for free
* some workshops that didn’t really make sense to me
* a basic lecture by some guy about japanese language (since it was for people who don’t know anything about japanese, we didn’t go)
* a ga-nime special
* the gamesroom
* the people
The anime
Let’s start chronologically: We looked at the program and didn’t see anything interesting. We watched 1 1/2 Maison Ikkoku episodes but that wasn’t all that interesting. Actually it doesn’t really make sense to watch 1-2 episodes of an anime, not finishing it - and on top of that, it’s not like one can’t buy/borrow/download this from other sources. So in the end, the only really interesting thing was “They were Eleven” that was only shown on Sunday. *sigh*
I do admit that one normally goes to anime-cons to watch anime and meeting people, but in our case, it didn’t work out due to lack of interest for the anime and no people to meet with.
The merchandise
There wasn’t that much, mainly expensive japanese stuff but nothing interesting except for NANA accessories. And then… and then… we saw the Ana-chan english teacher figure! Arrrr~ Of course it was horribly overpriced (like nearly 180% of the original retail price), but the figure looks really good! Argh.
Another recent good-looking is the extremely expensive Yurie-sama one (from Kamichu). I wonder whether I will ever buy an anime figurine.
The tearoom
Like I said the tea was good, but you had to pay for snacks (which sucks) and I also heard that they had cake the last years. I would even have paid (a small sum) for a good cake (mostly because I love sweet things), and I was quite disappointed that there wasn’t any. The room also didn’t have *any* tearoom atmosphere at all. Ugh.
The ga-nime special
I have only watched the first ga-nime (this one, a re-telling of a book by Balzac) in the program and I actually don’t even know whether they’ve shown others. Ga-nime (as this page describes) are movies which feature only artistically sophisticated freeze images and voices that tell a story. The stories themselves are generally adaptations of classical japanese or european literature. All in all, I found the movie so gorgeous that I would even pay for these works: The story was unfolded very slowly and the pictures were incredibly beautiful. The seiyuu were very good too (which is crucial because you only see freeze images so that the sound makes a huge impact on the viewer) Ah, it was such a pain to see all those stupid girls leaving the room and blabbering about how boring it was. It wasn’t boring, that was just slow-paced. (The worst were those girls who were blabbering about how interesting, artsy and beautiful it was - note the sarcasm in the language - but they still couldn’t continue watching it because their english was too crappy to understand the story.)
Now I wished I have watched more and I hope so much that somebody would be willing to sub them. A propos, the subs for the ga-nime was absolutely awful, inconsistencies, bad spelling and grammar and (from what I can say) not really accurate translation.
Does anybody know more about these works? (Or can translate the official website?) I have never heard about them before.
The gamesroom
That was, just like Milkmaster had predicted, the main reason why we went there. Among all the events of the whole con, this was what was the most enjoyable. There was Guitar Hero which we’ve played quite a lot of times. At first, I seriously didn’t understand what to do *coughcough*, but then, it went pretty well even though I still find it difficult to ‘feel’ the music - I only watch the screen and don’t really listen to the music.
Then, there was a big screen with a Wii! In my opinion, the Wii is absolutely perfect for social gatherings like this. We met some nice people (okay, one nice person to be exact) and - being the first time for me - I was so excited about playing it. We have played Wii Sports and Wii Play: While I prefer Wii Play as a game (oh, that tennis-like game was so gorgeous), we had more fun with Wii Sports since we had a match of bowling with 3 people *arrr* I can’t wait for the Wii to become less expensive so that I can get one *____*
I also love the concept of the Mii’s. On the Wii, there was an Adolf, a Kim Jung and a Saddam. They also looked pretty accurate and funny *hehe* In the end, Milkmaster and the nice person used Kim-Jung and Adolf to play the cow race. As you might know, there always is a white and a brown cow - and of course, Adolf sat on the brown one! Bwahahar! We had so laugh so badly and had so much fun!
Verdict
I would go to such an event again, and if it’s only for gaming *harr harr*
PS. Friday morning, I browsed a bit through the egl LiveJournal community and noticed how nice it would be to dress gothic lolita to the event. Since it was pretty hot, I ended up doing it and was even complimented by somebody! *_* That made me buy another gothic-lolita-styled shirt one day later… XD

Sounds quite unfun actually. I would think the main draw of a convention are cosplayers, fan goods and meeting new hot girl friends who share your interests lol.
Posted 01 May 2007 at 05:10 CE(S)T ¶well, they had a cake at the auction… but it was sold for like 10€ a piece… it looked really yummy ;_; I think the auction was really good though, great entertainment value.
Posted 01 May 2007 at 08:29 CE(S)T ¶However, I guess I spend most of the time in the gamesroom, too xD
My guess is that either the location was too big for the marathon (because you did not really have to hang out with other people) or that it would just be more fun if you really spend the night… but, I might even go again
Oh wow, I would have never expected somebody who went there to comment. What a pleasant surprise *_*
Anyways, if you have spent the whole time in the gamesroom, who were you then? XD
The location, yeah, well it most definitely didn’t fit the Anime-Marathon with its hotel-like atmosphere. But oh well, I didn’t expect much contact with other people aside from the Wii anyways *hrr*
Posted 01 May 2007 at 08:38 CE(S)T ¶well, I didn’t expect to stumble across an entry about the marathon on animenano either ;D
well, not the whole time, just the most… I cosplayed Hikari from KonoMimi xD soo, I think I remember a gothic lolita playing wii and guitar hero on friday.. so I would guess, that’s you then? If my guess is correct, you looked very cute in your dress indeed!
Posted 01 May 2007 at 09:18 CE(S)T ¶The Wii, yeah ^o^ I think it was perfect on the big sreen. (and it was on such a tiny TV on Satrurday ;_;!) however, we always play wii at my boyfriend’s. so we didn’t at the con.
SASA WHERE ARE TEH PIXXORS?
Posted 01 May 2007 at 11:38 CE(S)T ¶@juu: Oh noes, I truly have been discovered! >o< (I actually didn\'t want that *ähem*) Unfortunately I didn\'t seem to pay attention to you at all, I\'m afraid T_T (Then again, I haven\'t watched \"This ugly yet beautiful world\" so I don\'t even know how Hikari or a cos of her looks like *cough*)
I\’m very glad that you\’ve stumbled upon this entry and commented though! Who knows, maybe we\’ll see each other in other places (but actually I don\’t know any \”juu\” in forums either O.o)
@Tsubaki: Well, the answer is easy: I don\’t have anybody to take photos of and the rooms with the interesting stuff (the games and the ga-nime) were pitch black.
