Who are all these characters? - A look back on Simoun

I have finally found a little bit time to write this post. In fact, I already started writing a post but then tossed it in the trash because I felt it doesn’t do justice to that great series. However, I feel like I need to write something about the last episodes of Simoun and what can I do aside from some small comments about the characters? *g*

But before, let’s look at their portrait. To put this at the very end of the series was touching and absolutely great. I liked this much more than Aelle and Neviril’s stupid dance ^^;;;

All

I have tried to figure out who is who, but there is one person missing! (The one in the red circle, of course.) She totally looks like Mamiina, but then again, Mamiina is at the side of Rodore. There are also other characters where I am not so sure whether I got them right. So… what the hell?

Onto the characters. First off, we have
Guragief and Anubitef
They looked so gorgeous as Sibylla! Arrrr~. I think their love story is one of the sweetest in the whole series which makes me wonder why they both became men. Throughout the whole series, I didn’t really pay attention to them, until the point where their character began to develop… and their kiss was the very first shounen-ai kiss in the whole anime history that heartily approve of *g* (No, I usually don’t like shounen-ai/yaoi.) It totally fitted the mood, it was emo and touching - <3!
On top of that, Anubitef was so gorgeous in that fighting scene. *arrr!* So all in all, they have become my favourite characters, even before Yun.

Yun
She wasn’t all that emo. I have expected worse things. Her “ore” is lovely as ever - to think that a high priestess refers to herself with “ore” is… interesting. XD And the way she replaced Onashia was like I have expected, Yun perfectly fits this role when one thinks how much she wanted to save somebody. However, her character didn’t have any emotional impact on me anymore. I wonder why.
Btw, her high priestess clothes are love, and I don’t know whether I prefer this or her collar + mini-skirt from before. If I were able to sew, I would cosplay this. *ggg*

Mamiina
Well, Mamiina is dead, but she died a sad death! She looked beautiful in the field of grass, but I think it’s a sad thing not to have a proper funeral ^^;;; I also was greatly touched by how the sibylla draw some Ri Maajons for her. The episodes around her death definitely were the best of the whole anime.

Morinas
Even though she didn’t have much screentime, I don’t know why I like her so much. Maybe it’s her carefree, but lovely character - and unlike Aelle, she’s not that annoying *cough*

Rimone and Dominura
I absolutely hate people singing in the middle of an episode. Maria-sama ga Miteru, Red Garden, Manabi Straight - ugh! I always disliked it and Simoun is no exception. However, I like both characters a lot for the relationship they are sharing and I find it quite saddening that they never will see the other sibylla again.

Neviril and Aelle
I admit that they have become a cute couple, especially when they draw the Dandelion Ri Maajon in the Maaju Pool to show the people from the Ministry of Defense. Very well done, girls! In the end, I think it’s great how they have found each other, but I still see them as not having really, hm, matured. (Of course not, they want to stay ‘maidens’ for the rest of their life.)

The rest of them
I totally agree with the last episode, even though it had many surprises (For instance… Paraietta and Rodore? Oh my!) I was especially glad that the sisters (twincest ahoi!) decided to become both women and live together. And it was sad to see that war is not totally over. All in all, I wished the characters had a little bit more screentime (and the Aelle/Neviril flashbacks were a little shorter) so that one can see more of what they’ve become, but it’s okay this way. Unlike maybe a lot of you who have wanted the questions to be resolved, I didn’t feel like Simoun had an open ending. I was a great ride despite its faults and I can only hope for more anime like this.

I think the one in the red circle is Amuria. The one next to Neviril doesn’t really look like her.

In another blog someone said that the one next to Neviril could be Paraietta. Since the Paraietta above is crossed out, she might have decided to draw herself in a different way.

Well I’m just going to post to confirm that Eric is right, the one in the red circle is Amuria, and the one next to Neviril is Paraietta. She didn’t like how Morinas drew her, so she crossed it out and redrew herself. Simoun tte saikou. Owari. : D

I can’t find the post to save my life but Eirik and Tess are correct. ^_^

Aside from drawing Paraietta badly, Morinas thought Aelle (Aaeru) looked weird with just a head; This is why she’s the only one who has a body in the portrait.

P.S.: I know the PS2 game is supposed to come out soon… any word on the OVA, or was that scrapped?

Unbelievably enough, I found the posting on Animesuki’s forum’s talking about this. Check out Warainagara’s post (2097) on page 105.

There’s also some really good stuff throughout the Simoun thread but you’d really have to be dedicated to read it all because, as of right now, they’re up to 123 pages with 2452 postings.
