Spring season preview - is it too early?

“Woah this is so great!” is an expression you barely hear from my mouth anymore. I’ve kind of lost the excitement, but is this because I don’t like anime anymore?

You will easily see that the answer is a big “NOOO!” because spring season is as promising as ever though - arrr! Here we go (in order of importance):

Emma Bokura no

Bokurano
I think we don’t even need to talk about Bokurano anymore. I’m probably the biggest Mohiro Kitoh fangirl this world has ever seen
and even when Gonzo screws up this anime *badly*, I would still watch it.

Emma

Victorian Romance Emma - The 2nd Act
The Emma manga finished recently and I was more than delighted to see that there’s going to be a second season. I think if this is going to be 26 episodes, they might finish off the series. And of course they have to add some OVAs for Emma Bangaihen! *hrrr*
Among the big sequels of the year (Emma, Suzumiya Haruhi and Zero no Tsukaima), this is the one I’m looking forward to the most. But I will watch all 3 of course.

Tetsuko1 Tetsuko5

Tetsuko no Tabi
Besides Bokurano, this is the very first IKKI manga that was ever turned into an anime! That’s enough to get me hooked even though I have no idea what this anime exactly is going to be about. (I would have expected Freesia much more than Bokurano and Tetsuko no Tabi though. Freesia is plain cool, but maybe a bit too dark and cruel.)

Milkmaster will love this anime: It’s IKKI, it’s about a train otaku and it probably won’t be long.

Emma

Lovely Complex
I think most people who read scanlation and shôjo manga know this series. It’s popular, very cute and very, very shôjo about a tall girl and a small guy (called the comedy duo because of their funny appearance and the way how they match together perfectly). I wouldn’t say this series is really generic (beginning with the fact that the main characters are far from being your typical lovey-dovey heroine and your huge, muscular MAN), but it’s just as sweet and funny as you would expect a shôjo series to be.
Now how will the anime turn out? And will they be able to attain a good animation quality (like in Ouran) and not fail hopelessly as in Bokura ga Ita?

Emma

Dennou Coil
I saw the website and the designs really appealed to me. It looks like some Morning/Evening/IKKI kind of manga and wao from the Animesuki forums is raving about this. This series sounds so refreshing un-commercial and well worked out. Me wants.
Maybe this will turn out to be a must-watch.

Emma

Moonlight Mile
I got to know about this anime years ago. It was most often compared to Planetes as a serious and slightly political science-fiction series. Later, I heard that this manga turns out to be pretty crappy where the protagonist has nothing better to do than fucking around - unfortunately, nobody has ever cared to scanlate this.
Nevertheless, I am eager to see it, because I was eyeing this series for such a long time now.

Emma

Lucky Star
This is taken from a 4koma which is always a plus for me. It really is a little bit like Azumanga Daioh from what I can see in the first 2 chapters of the manga.
On top of that, it’s Kyoto Animation so I’m expecting this series to look very good.

Emma

Romeo x Juliet
It’s Gonzo so I’m not particularily interested. Gonzo has screwed up the story of Gankutsuô for me already, but who knows - I’m a big fan of Romeo and Juliet and just like Gankutsuô, I’m positive that the anime will at least look good.

Emma

El Cazador
Since Madlax, there hasn’t been any BeeTrain anime, hm? Anyways, I loved the first half of Noir and I also enjoyed Madlax so I will definitely at least take a look at this one too. After all, I am a sucker for BeeTrain’s unrealistic but beautiful style.

Emma

Darker than Black
Honestly I have no idea what this anime is about, but I have the feeling that it will turn out rather classy. There’s supposed to be a blind goth-loli in it too. Wow.
Oh, and it’s a series by Bones, that sounds like good animation quality.

Emma

Ookiku Furikabutte
I didn’t even read the manga - that’s a bad start already. On top of that, it’s a series about baseball (I hate baseball series with a passion and only read them when they are by Mitsuru Adachi.)
But the style actually is interesting and the manga got a lot of praises from everywhere (you know, like getting the Tezuka Award). Maybe I’ll like the anime? I will probably drop this because I will watch too much stuff at the same time, but who knows… if Fall and Winter 2007 are as boring as 2006, then I might pick up “older” series.

I’m not posting much currently but as soon as spring comes, you will hear from me *______*

I’m really looking forward to the spring season, hopefully it will be more enjoyable visually than the January offerings. Fingers Crossed that Dennou Coil turns out to be really cool!

The concept for Tetsuko no Tabi is a great one. It basically features a boss, who asks a manga artist to accompany him on his travels through Japan, recording the things that happen. The catch is, however, is that it’s completely non-fiction. The guy really did travel, and the manga artist just recorded the things that happened.

The one I’m really looking forward to is Denno Coil. Seirei no Moribito also looks very promising. Something’s telling me that the coming spring season will be even better than last year’s. :)

Lovely Complex seems to be promising and I certainly hope that I like it, otherwise the season doesn’t look too good.

Hello, my fellow Mohiro Kitoh fan.

I’m really hoping Gonzo doesn’t screw this up, because Bokurano is one of those series that has SO much potential, and differs from your typical moe or typical action anime. It’s so shocking, too, and ever since Narutaru ended I wished for a series as twisted as it….nothing has lived up to it.

Before psycho Kaede, guys, there was psycho HIRO-CHAN! Bwahahaha!

@Danny: Oh, I see a possible reason why you haven’t gotten into the manga (yet). The first shocking scene is in volume 2, chapter 7. It will completely throw over the “game” they are playing right now.

@Hazel: Yes, it seems spring season generally has a higher budget and stronger series. (Emma for example seems to be pretty successful internationally.) On top of that, we have lots of seinen this time.

@psgels: Thank you for the information about Tetsuko no Tabi! Now I am even more interested.
Serei no Moribito does look good, but then again, I mostly dislike the historical japanese setting. There are only very few exceptions.

Lovely Complex really is a nice story - for a shôjo. The characters give a very heartwarming, cheerful atmosphere and you get the feeling that they really enjoy their life besides all the relationship drama. And besides, it’s quite funny too.

    @Crayola: *shakeshand*
Harr, Hiro-chan <3 I bet she’s Kitoh’s favourite loli in the whole Narutaru cast.
I think Bokurano is (in some ways) even more shocking even though it “lacks” the disturbing images of Narutaru volume 6. While the secrets of Narutaru reveal themselves only slowly, we have two big shocking revelations in Bokurano already.

PS. Wah my first german comment! For one second, I’ve forgotten whether I’m really blogging in english. *hrr* So… is my english sounding so german or what? @.@ Ah, it must be the “Abschicken” button XD

Thank you for the overview… nothing really excites me here, even Victorian Romance Emma S2. I have neer seen a slower-moving series. The animation quality was very high, but nothing ever happened :(

Oooh, looks good already. There are some that aren’t quite high on my list -like Emma-, but a lot of them look nice from the promo posters. Moonlight Mile doesn’t look like something I’d be all over either, but since the pillows will be doing the opening -or ending, I forget-, I’ll have to give it a try.
