I just read the first volume of Doubt!! and that saved my day! It’s incredible how many good things happened today after I screwed up my exam and I just could not get my spirits up again - but these chapters of Doubt!! managed to do it! After all, I love funny shôjo manga *g*
Well, everybody is doing this so I will talk a little bit about my start of the season.
For my tastes, I have peeked into quite a lot of new shows, and will stick to 4 (or 5, if I don’t drop Death Note) at least.
In conclusion, this is probably the first time that my own season preview has been more or less accurate. For spring and summer, I always ended up watching other stuff than what I’ve expected *hehe* But slowly, I apparently am getting a good idea of what anime I like and what not.
Going from the biggest deception to the best. Shows with an asterique denote the ones I am watching together with Milkmaster.
9. Taiyo no Mokushiroku, D. Grayman, Galaxy Railroad Story
I haven’t watched D.Grayman because I wanted to look at the manga first - and I haven’t watched Taiyo no Mokushiroku and Galaxy Railroad because they simply haven’t been released yet.
8. Kiniro no Corda
Meant to become my weekly dose of shôjo. Too bad there isn’t one single good shôjo anime after Hachikuro and Ouran have ended!
I’ve been anticipating this anime a lot, but it turned out to look really, really ugly and the story itself apparently is crap. I hate the protagonist already for being able to play an instrument without practising and without putting the least little bit effort into it. This is so lame. See Hataraki Man.
7. Perfect Girl Evolution
Meant to become a replacement for Ouran. Totally failed.
I’ve perfectly aware again why I’ve loved the manga back then. And apparently the manga has gotten less funny because I dropped it somewhere in the middle. The story is so promising and Sunako is the best, but sadly I cannot stand seeing the execution of this show.
6. Death Note *
It’s really nicely done, I can’t say anything against that. If Milkmaster loses interest in continuing watching this, though, I will do too. Even though I’ve forgotten a lot about what happened earlier in the story, the suspense is lost. Too bad I cannot enjoy this great show - but then again, I enjoyed the manga a lot.
5. Asatte ni Hôkô
Meant to be a replacement for Kamichu *g* It’s the only series I’m watching so far that didn’t appear in my preview.
Not sure what I should think about this series. I only placed this before Death Note, because I read the manga of Death Note so that overall, I enjoy this series more than Death note. We’ll see.
4. Red Garden
Well, tj mentioned that this is the same as Gantz, just a lot more girlish. Unfortunately this is true - at the
very moment the first monster showed up, I thought of Gantz too. Now, Red Garden has nearly completely lost its originality to me. Not to forget that I hate those songs. (Just like I hate musicals and musical movies with very few exceptions.) But I love the style of Red Garden and despite everything, I find the story intriguing.
I guess, if Gankutsuou wasn’t based on the Count of Monte Cristo, I would have continued watching it too. (Oh mon Maximilien! Ils violent ton noble caractère!)
3. Sumomomo Momomo *
Meant to be a replacement for Azumanga Daioh (you know, they both are funny and Momoko and Chiyo do share some similarities, imho *g*). It didn’t quite work out, but that’s not a bad thing.
“Let’s engage in child production!” It’s a nice way to pronounce the wish of sexual intercourse, I must say. Which is one of the reasons I love this show - as well as the nice animation (it’s not top-notch, but the characters look good and consistent, and the overall mood is great.)
2. Bartender
Meant to be a replacement for Aria. Nearly met my expectations perfectly.
People love this show, people hate this show. As for me, it makes me want to go to a bar and drink a cocktail. I like it and I didn’t feel bored at all while watching it.
By the way, I think the similarities with Aria are totally striking. They’re both “healing” anime, they both are slow paced but don’t feel boring at all (to me), and they both are so damn unrealistic and kitsch.
1. Hataraki Man (*)
I have to get Milkmaster to watch this too - I love this and I think there is a good reason why this is my no.1 *g* I’m glad that Moyoco Anno actually is able to do a manga that pleases me (after reading Sugar Sugar Rune, Sakuran and Happy Mania, I nearly lost hope).
I love the effort Matsukata is putting into her work and even though I don’t share her opinion, I like her point of view on life. (3 months without sex but with a boyfriend? No way!) This is Moyoco Anno’s first protagonist I like - and how much I like her! <3
Now the only shows I have recently finished watching that did not have any replacement are Mushishi and Ergo Proxy. *GRMBL* I want more stuff like these.

Gah, I meant to write “love” not “ove”, stupid me…
