Live Action Honey and Clover Is One Petal Shy of Four

I wish I was more excited about the live action Hachikuro. But how could I be, really. The movie was not so great -though I still ended up buying the dvd regardless-. I thought, “If they could botch a movie, they could botch a drama.”

When I first went through the cast, I liked the male side of it all. Ikuta Toma will definately make a better Takemoto than Sakurai Shou, there is no doubt about that. It is his performance in HanaKimi that makes me think he has a chance to at least portray Takemoto rightly I just don’t think he has enough to hit an out of the park homer with his acting. Narimiya Hiroki I also thought would be able to knock down the quirky parts of Morita… but I worry about the serious parts of the character. He just has that cat-like grin that I cant help but imagine when I think of him that wont let me take him seriously (read: Nana Movie) and we all know Morita is pretty damn serious. Mukai Osamu as Mayama… that was my least favorite. I dont even remember him being in Nodame until I looked it up. I remember him from Bambino! and he wasn’t taken seriously then. He’s more of a mystery, but he’s got potential.

Like in Nana2 where they changed Hachi to look sexier, the same holds for Narumi Riko and Hagu. Just how tall is she really (read: Just how loli is she really)? HMMMM? She’s cute, just tall for Hagu. As much as I’d love for Aoi Yuu to take up the role, that’s pretty much impossible for she’s more of a movie girl than drama girl. And for Harada Natsuki as Yamada… at first I didn’t think she was anywhere near as sexy as Yamada should be especially with her part in HanaKimi, but that’s not really solid grounds for not believing in her.

So when I went to go watch the first episode, I had hopes but I knew better…

Honey & Clover Ep.F

Finally it’s being subbed! *heh* For some reason I liked it even more than episode L… I loved the story with Miwako and Yamazaki XXXD It was SO funny, and on the other hand their subtle love story is so cute *heh* And hey, the shirts are really cool, especially the Lupin III outfit *g* Well, actually I loved the whole episode which was less weird and eccentric as episode L, more down to earth and somehow more heartwarming…

Honey & Clover Ep.L

XXD Well, Honey & Clover is just really funny, nothing more, but also nothing less *g* This episode really is some fan-thing, for people who have watched the whole series. It is even crazier than the series is already XD I mean for real… Japan is the only country where this kind of trash can be successful XD
And oh my! The end of the episode was so great! XD The punchline was god-like, I really had to laugh XD

Honey & Clover Ep.24

Hmm… I’d love to go on a trip - with motorbikes, I guess… or a road trip through the United States *g* riding a bike is just too painful and takes too long, perhaps for 1-2 months. But I think I wouldn’t be able to do that alone. Not like I don’t have the courage to do something like that alone - I just would feel lonely if I stay alone too long. I don’t need to find myself like Takemoto, but I think I need something ‘different’.

Honey & Clover Ep.22&23

Only 2 episodes to go! I feel like I see more sense in Takemoto’s story - he is moving towards a way where I can see an end, so to say. I feel like he’ll truly learn something from his trip for life… and I’m glad for him to have found nice people and some kind of work - although it’s crappy work. A naive person like Takemoto just needs this little bit of “real life” to grow up, I guess. These restauration people he met, I think they have made the point very clear (from their different perspectives). Rokutarô is cute and the story with the bridge was just absolutely fabulous. With the piano version of “Waltz” in the background, this little scene made me feel very touched again. I really think the background music in H&C is totally amazing.

Honey & Clover Ep.21

Oh my gosh, the cakes in Fujiwara Design that Nomiya offered to Yamada are soooo~ cute! It’s cakes in form of cats *___* I want them too!
Actually I have the impression that I’m not that much into this crucial “self-realization”-arc. Perhaps I’m too much afraid about my own future… I can understand Takemoto too, too well. So not much to say about this episode right now. I’ve written a summary though ^^

Honey & Clover Ep.19&20

I should realize I’m nearly at the end of the anime. Only 4 episodes to go and although I (more or less) know what is going to happen, and although I don’t really feel that strong emotional bond to this anime like to Planetes or Neon Genesis Evangelion back then, I still feel like I can’t let go of this series… T_T

Anyway, episodes 19 & 20 were pretty beautiful again. The storyline returns more or less to its initial subject, the search of young people for what to do in life. And I like that. I especially like the way Yamada slowly realises more and more how egoistic and stupid her love is (although I personally have to say that she definitely is a strong person, being able to stay friends with Mayama all that time). I can understand her very well though. How is she even supposed to act in another way when Mayama can’t let her go either? I can only hope for her to turn towards Nomiya a little bit more. Actually I don’t like Nomiya… maybe because of his hair cut XD

Since I planned to do this, a summary of episode 20 (I actually forgot what episode 19 was about - so you see how much I need these summaries XD)

Honey & Clover Ep.16-18

I know, I’m now addicted to Honey & Clover. Considering the fact how boring Haibane Renmei was to me right now, I think the difference is very, very clear now *g*

Episode 16 was my favourite of these 3, while episode 17 was rather boring. I especially liked the change in Yamada’s opinion of Mayama. Well, she really was childish and stupid before when she considers someone as caring as him as an idiot. Her dialogue with Shuuji was very touching because of that. I just couldn’t think about what that “third option” is that Shuuji talked about - so I went to search for the answer in forums. Well the answer is rather satisfying and made me like that scene a lot. Shuuji definitely is the less egocentric character in the whole anime.

Honey & Clover Ep.14&15

I didn’t really like the first part of episode 14, because it was mainly about Rika - I don’t really like her. I don’t see what’s good in her… she’s just has no character unlike Hagu and Ayu. But at the end of episode 15, I begin to like Rika and Mayama’s story. Is it because of the great, touching insert song? *g* (I’m repeatedly listening to the song right now…) It made the scenes with Mayama and Rika driving in the rain even more beautiful. And the flashback to Mayama watching the moon for hours while Rika was sleeping was very, very well done too. These are the points where I see how Honey & Clover can be slice-of-life and realistic.

Honey & Clover Ep.11-13

Wow, a break in the story… I guess this is really important, without Morita, Takemoto and Hagu seem to approach to each other. But I think Takemoto is right with his distant feeling to Hagu - she truly lives in another world than him. The question in my eyes is rather whether the strange way Hagu and Morita look at the world are important to them. I especially like the 13th episode - maybe because of the story with Yamada and her plant ^^ And the yukata story with Hagu was so funny XD Is it just me or is Honey & Clover really getting funnier?
